A bygone bauble of extreme rarity and beauty, this Celluloid reticule is a brilliant example of Art Deco craftsmanship. Large enough for only a lipstick, a key and some “mad money,” it is nevertheless a statement accessory that can stand up to the most exquisite evening gown. Subtly striking, this exquisite silk handbag features a muted Chinoiserie motif that would be remarkable on its own were it not upstaged by its unique figured brass top lid, which is worked to resemble rigid flowers with coral and emerald cabochons at their centers. The hairpin chain handle allows all angles of the purse to be seen to full effect, while the slipper satin change purse—tethered to the interior by a delicate chain—is trimmed in matching Chinoiserie brocade. A wearable work of art.

As intricate as an Italian mosaic but as impermeable as a safe, this handbag is both a strongbox and a piece of art. Fully crusted with seed beads—some of which are doubled for extra topography—the purse’s pattern resembles cobblestones surrounding a bugle bead lotus flower at the center. The real eye-catcher, however, is the trapezoidal 24-karat gold plated frame, which surrounds the bag on all sides for an imposing, powerful silhouette.

Equally as coveted by the well-bred Victorienne as by the gin-baby flapper, Trinity Plate reticules and minaudières were THE accessory of choice for fashionable women in the early 20th century. Their gilt frames, ornate latches and sumptuous fabrics nearly doubled as jewelry, as reflected in this jeweled needlepoint version.

Beige gilt filigree frame reticule with chain top handle and sapphire crystals along both sides of frame edge; floral needlepoint ground in shades of pale green, pink and brown with micro needlepoint rose bouquet in center of both sides. Open interior with pockets both sides; gilt flip-top crown clasp inset with sapphire crystals on sides and ball cut sapphire stone at top. Fully lined in beige silk moiré. Original mirror and gold leather snapping keeper pouch included.
